【Tonkee Machinery Co.,Ltd Compilation】Derbyshire-based Collins Earth Engineering Company has accepted the UK's first Volvo EC950F--the largest excavator in the Volvo construction equipment series. The heavy excavator weighs 104 tons and works on the Mercia Park project at the intersection of M42, Leicestershire, along with nine 60-ton A60H articulated dump trucks, four A40s and three A30s.
" EC950F has been on our radar for a while," Wayne, Contract Manager at Collins Earthworks "Our EC750 fleet enjoyed high productivity in previous projects, but now the EC950 has improved our performance by another level -- perhaps two levels," Naylor said. "The introduction of the EC950F at Mercia Park, and three EC750s and two EC700s at the same time, enabled the Collins Earthworks team to achieve the goal of moving 100,000 cubic meters of materials a week in the second week of the project. The 16 trucks are one-third fewer than previously used in similar East Midlands Portal (EMG) projects.
"This means fewer operators, fewer equipment and more material handling," Wayne Naylor said. "The efficiency improvement is impressive and we now expect earthwork to be completed in less than 27 weeks. It's unlikely that it will be our last EC950."
He said it's all about better matching large equipment. "The 6.75 cubic meter bucket of the EC950F allows us to fill an A60H in just 4 times. When we load the A60H with the EC750 in EMG, it takes 5 to 6 times to move the same amount of material. The four loads of the EC950 take only 45-50 seconds, generating a stable payload of 60-62 tons,"
To fillAccording to the silt discharge requirements of Collins, the EC950F is equipped with a 7.25-meter boom with a boom float and a 2.95-meter mass excavation arm. Large-scale excavation configuration also means larger bucket cylinders to generate greater breakthrough force – usually 43 tons of bucket excavation force. The 6.75 cubic meter bucket is given a life-sealed floating pin, while the automatic lubrication system takes into account the key points of the machine.
On the rear end is a 14.5-ton hydraulic removable counterweight, Collins Earthworks has built a bracket for one of its low-load trailers that allows the excavator to rewind onto the truck and lower the weight directly to its transport bracket.
The chassis of the machine can also be adjusted from a working width of 3.55 meters to a transport width of 2.79 meters.
Operator Mark Oakley said: "I spent thousands of hours on the EC750 and I can't believe the speed and power of the EC950F. The 750 is a good mud transferr, but that's another level. I didn't expect that such a large and heavy machine would make people feel so agile and flexible. The overall balance of the machine is impressive, and it's very stable. I believe it can handle a larger bucket on this material comfortably."
